4.5.12.11 Adaptive household equipment

If the worker's injury means they cannot return to completing household tasks as they did pre-injury, adaptive household equipment may be considered to help the worker maximise their independence, in accordance with the Household help services guidelines.

Adaptive household equipment refers to adaptive household cleaning and gardening equipment with specific clinically justified features that are necessary for a worker to build capacity, participate in and maximise their independence with activities of daily living.

The type of adaptive household equipment covered by this guidance includes, but is not limited to:

  • Household cleaning equipment e.g. stick vacuum, steam mop

  • Lightweight gardening equipment e.g. battery powered mower, trimmer

WorkSafe may consider paying the reasonable cost of, or making a contribution to, the purchase of adaptive household equipment, where all of the Guideline conditions are met.
